We have already started photographing the Class of 2010. I am always amazed at the fine quality of our Seniors. It is way to easy to think that our youth have become lazy good for nothing druggies. Nothing is farther from the truth. Our youth are exposed to pressures that I have never had to address, even when I was in the Navy. I do think that kids (I really hate that word) today need the support of their family as never before. They need the love and pride of having parents that they want to look up to.
One of the goals of the Distingushed Leader Program is to give the Seniors on the panel the recognition that they are truly deserving of and one more accomplishment they can be proud of. We started the program at Boyd County 21 years ago and last year we were approached by Fairview to help them get a Senior Salute program started there. This group of former Boyd County students are now at the forefront of our community. They are our teachers, doctors, lawyers, accountants and other professionals in and around Ashland that make this a great area to live in.
As the new class of 2010 comes to the studio I can see the excitement that they have about their future. This alone makes the work we do worth while. It is such a joy talking to them about their plans. I began this program to do a good deed for our youth, but I really think that the roles have been reversed now, what they have done for me is where the real rewards are!
